I have a great friend in another state who just like me, started out online. She had no money to invest, but the dreams to make it big. She kept asking me, Sahil! How the hell can you make money online without any money to invest. I told her to first take a deep breath, then think about how anyone else starts a business…with hard work and dedication. See having a blog is not as easy as it sounds. It requires hard work and dedication and LOTS of patience. Here are a few pointers for starting off…
Don’t quit your day job. Most blogs don’t make any money, period. Most blogs are simply there as a hobby, the ones that do make money don’t start off making money until at least 3 to 6 months after launch. So start off by realizing this is not a get rich quick scheme…you will need to be patient and work at it.
Research. Don’t expect your blog to run itself, you will need to research various topics and write about them almost on a 2 times a day schedule…at the least. Most of the successful blogs focus on one specific genre and have multiple posts per day. Keep your reader interested and they will keep your site traffic on the up.
Don’t Monetize to fast. The biggest mistake most newbie’s make is setting up a Adsense account on the first day of blogging and posting the ads on every open square inch of there blog. No one wants to be bombarded with “ads by Google.” Give some and you’ll get a lot on the long run. Think of a slow paced plan to monetize your blog…start off with a simple banner, a few links here but make sure you do it slowly.
Have Patience: I already told you, no one gets rich quick in this business…you must work at it…check your stats, see what topic works and doesn’t. Search digg.com, fark.com, technorati.com, etc and see what others are blogging about. Don’t expect your site to reach the top of those user generated sites within the first few weeks, or even months of your initial blog start, but you will learn a lot about topic trends.
Don’t Quit: Times usually get worse before they get better. With that said don’t quit blogging because your traffic doesn’t seem to increase or you are not generating any revenue within the first 6 months. Just keep at it, your users will provide feedback and trust me…use that feedback wisely.
Post Everyday!!!!!!! Make sure you post something every day, I cant begin to push this on you…a blog that is not written on with a timely schedule will fail!
More to come…
